The Lee Kuan Yew Prize Award Ceremony and Banquet was held on 29 June 2010, during the World Cities Summit, at the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The programme for the evening included an exclusive dialogue session with Minister Mentor (MM) Lee Kuan Yew, moderated by Professor Kishore Mahbubani, Chairman of the Nominating Committee and Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. The inaugural Prize Laureate was presented with a gold medallion, an award certificate and a cash prize of S$300,000, fully sponsored by Keppel Corporation. The by-invitation only event was well-attended by more than 650 internationaland local ministers, mayors and dignitaries.

The Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize Lecture |

The Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize Lecture, a key event at the recently concluded World Cities Summit 2010 in Singapore, is a dedicated platform for the inaugural Prize Laureate, Bilbao City Hall, to share the city’s experiences in the transformation from an industrial city to a cultural and knowledge-based economy.
Speaking through a Spanish translator, Dr Iñaki Azkuna, Mayor of Bilbao, spoke on Bilbao’s challenges and innovations, the adoption of key strategies and projects to aid the city’s transformation over the past 25 years and Bilbao’s future plans.
The Lecture, moderated by Professor Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and Chairman of the Prize Nominating Committee, attracted more than 800 international and local dignitaries, policymakers, leading experts and Summit delegates.

The Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize Forum

The Forum is a dedicated platform for all the four finalists of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, including the Prize Laureate, to share their diverse experiences as important learning points in urban development. The Forum presented the context and challenges faced by the three special mentions (Dr Jaime Lerner, the City of Melbourne as well as Ms Sheila Dikshit), the urban solutions they have sought, and their achievements in the creation of liveable, vibrant, and sustainable urban communities with a high quality of life. The speakers were joined by the Prize Laureate (represented by Dr Iñaki Azkuna, Mayor of Bilbao) and the moderator, Mrs Cheong Koon Hean, CEO(URA) for a panel discussion. The response for the Forum was overwhelming and attracted more than 400 people.

Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2012: Call for Nominations
The Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize is a biennial award to recognise individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the creation of vibrant, liveable and sustainable urban communities around the world. It seeks to recognise individuals and organisations responsible for urban initiatives that display foresight, good governance or innovation in
tackling the many urban challenges faced by cities.
The Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize Laureate will be presented with an award certificate, a gold medallion and a cash prize of S$300,000, sponsored by Keppel Corporation. |
